Ever heard of the John Muir Award? No? From the official website, it’s “…an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.” So now you know; seems to align fairly nicely with the ethos of the DOE award doesn’t it?
This award is mainly delivered in Scotland, but it’s a cracking one to undertake for the Community Service section of DOE too. A group of participants in Pembs. have been doing just that recently, by working hard to deliver the Hook Village Improvement Plan. On this occasion they spent 2 hours clearing litter from the area in and around Hook playground and managed to clear 7 bags of rubbish, 9 tyres, 4 chairs, a bath, 3 oil drums, 20 various large metal objects, a 15 foot steel pole, a bucket and ironically enough an old sign that said ‘No tipping’. Well done lads, keep up the good work!
