Busy, busy, busy…

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

Since starting a slightly busier new job in June, the site has been somewhat lacking in updates and new features. I’m going to start making a real effort to sit down once a week (if only for 1 hour) to add content and do the jobs that need constantly tweaking. For starters, there is a new article on expedition clothing over there! –>

I need YOUR help in this. Please, please use the forums and send in your expedition photos, suggestions etc. Thanks, JamesB.

Ty’n Y Berth Winter course

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Ty’n Y Berth is an outdoor education mountain centre based in Corris Uchaf in North Wales. They have close links with the Pembrokeshire DOE scene, mainly through the running of WGL/ML courses for staff memebers.

Next February they’re running a winter hill walking course in Scotland where you can learn the use of crampons & ice axes, avalanche evaluation and winter navigation techniques. The dates are 17th – 22nd Feb. 2008, based in the western highlands.

Pre-requisites are summer hill walking experience and a reasonable level of fitness. The cost is £200. Please contact the centre here.

Expedition Dates for 2008

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

The Tennessee trip is now cancelled due to a very limited takeup. These trips need planning way in advance, please think ahead if you would like to do something slightly “different” for your Gold qualifier expedition!

The five peaks challenge is also postponed due to staff availability.

Key dates for 2008 include:

  • 1-4 April 2008 – practice Golds and Silver Qualifiers in Mid Wales
  • 9-15 July 2008 – Mull Golds
  • 23-29- August – Donegal Golds

As always, these dates are not confirmed until they are officially released by the authority (Dave Sommerville.)
