About this site
Disclaimer
This is a community driven website aimed at all participants and staff involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Even though we hope to reach a wide audience, it is run by VOLUNTEERS (as is most of the rest of the award) and IS NOT OFFICIAL. Any views expressed in articles/posts are those of the individual(s) concerned and IN NO WAY REFLECT THE VIEWS OR POLICIES of Pembrokeshire County Council or the award office in Brecon or the UK.
The people that run this website (James Davis & James Bowyer) reserve the right to remove any content that is deemed offensive or inappropriate, without prior warning. Whilst we make every effort to make sure the information on this site is correct and up-to-date, we make no guarantee. The permenency of any material uploaded to the site is also not guaranteed; DO NOT rely on this site for hosting your expedition photo gallery forever more.
Scope
The content of the site at the moment is mostly expedition related. This is mainly because both of the founders are actively involved in this section (and hopefully know a bit about it…err) but also becuase this is the single common section that binds all three levels of the award regardless of individual choices. Information about other sections of the award are by no means off-limit, especially if Pembrokeshire specific, but for general information on the skill, service, physical recreation or residential sections, you can’t beat the official award website.
Hosting
The site is currently hosted on FreeCharity.org.uk. Being a (non official) volunteer run website, cheap (free!) hosting is very hard to come by. If you think you can help us out in some way, get in contact. We’re not averse to (discrete) sponsorship from companies that fit in with the DOE/volunteering ethos should anyone wish to become involved!
Technology
This site is based on the awesome blogging tool Wordpress. Both this and all the other software products used are 100% open source, including SPG for the photo gallery, fPDF for the routecard tool and Phorum for the forum. We also strive for W3C standards compliance, but if you’re using an awful browser *cough*Internet Explorer*cough* then the site won’t be looking its prettiest… The random header images are currently all based on photos taken by James Davis or James Bowyer, but if others get added we’ll list and link the original photographer here too.
